Well – its that time of the week again ..
And by that I mean ‘update time’ I’m afraid. This time I’m going to do it a little differently and attempt to define up front what I’d like to change for the 1.6 update.
I aim to submit the update on Saturday evening, and spend as much of Saturday as I can working on Lushington and the short comings of late.
So, if you have any additions or concerns about the the following list, please leave a comment and let me know what you’d change. I’ll obviously be working towards fixing any bugs first, then balancing and then any new ‘features’, in that order. So requests for pinch&zoom and the like will only happen if I sort everything else out first. (I mention pinch&zoom because I do actually have code working for it – but it messes the tower placement up a bit; I don’t want to do anything too risky).
Of course, I’ll also have a little testing period on Saturday evening before submission.
Heres whats on the agenda so far:
-
Bugs:
- Game Won Screen appears on ‘Lushington Springs’ level even when you lose.
- Level won awards are not always awarded (need to confirm how to reproduce this first)
- RPGs to actually shoot aircraft this time
- Selling price of ******** – sells for more than purchase cost. Funny how no one pointed this one out before yesterday
- Start credits perk issue (you somehow start with more than the perk would suggest
-
Balancing
- Missiles are useless;
- Lancers are useless;
- Flamer area damage needs improve
- To revise upgraded tower’s damage/price stats for many of the towers.
I will add Helos again to the first level – fast and very weak. Missiles will sort these out
These will replace flak for heavier aircraft (bomber+)
-
‘Features’
- Tower Guide
- Email the author link in the options page (keep markplace free of bug reports)
- Difficulty Settings; Normal / Hard (I don’t do easy)
This will likely come in the form of a money-for-kills coeffient. Hard will be as it is now, and easy will reward, say 1.2x as much
It would be pretty hollow if I promised to get all these completed in one day, so I’d just like to finish off saying that this is a guide and I’ll try my best to work through everything.
Please let me know any other things which you think will improve the game for the better, and remember, the game is supposed to be difficult, so this will not necessarily make it alot easier, just more balanced.
Hey – best defefence game in the market place, but I can’t enjoy the last update, because it cannot be installed. There is a license problem, which cannot be solved. What should I do so far? Will this be fixed in the next version?
Thx for support.

Hi Tom,
Really sorry to hear that. Unfortunately all transactions and licenses (including trial mode) are handled entirely by microsoft.
I know some poeple were not notified of the last update, and I too cannot update any games on my WP7 device. There are two things which come to mind:
1. make sure you are signed in with the live! account on the device or in the zune software, and its the one you purchased the account from. The license for the game is linked to the live! accounts.
2. The second is to uninstall the game from the device and then re-download the whole game from the marketplace. This is what I had to do.
If that doesn’t work then I think the only option is to contact microsoft. Unfortunately I cannot find the link at the minute …

I’d like to see a tool for better (easier) tower placement in this great game. It sometimes turns out to be pretty hard to place a tower precisely where you want to because area is covered by the fingertip. Something like the cursor-setting feature in standard Wp7 textboxes would be very helpul.

Hi Zehlein,
A few people have asked for this, and I wouldn’t mind trying to add an option for it in the game.
The only issue I see (without making complicated UI menu options) is that if the tower icon is above the finger when placing (which is what many people seem to want), then there may be trouble placing the towers along the bottom edge of the map. It maybe this change is quite easy to implement, in which case I’ll give it a try.

Well, I could do with the smart solution: trying to place a tower at the bottom of the screen could render the tower just below the fingertip and trying to place the tower at the top edge of the screen just above it. Right and left are no problem playing the game but could be handled in the same way (just with the tower rendered right or left).
